October officially welcomes fall to us with beautiful reds, oranges and yellows in all our maple trees surrounding us in Leelanau County.

fall home decor front doorIt’s time to pack up summer furniture and put it away, empty flower pots and window boxes and tuck everything away for winter. (It seems like I just put my summer furniture out and now it’s going back in the garage again). Summer was way too short!

However, this is a fun time to decorate and take advantage of all the gourds and pumpkins and do some fun things on your front porch! I like to put things at different levels so consider turning a large flower pot upside down and put a pumpkin on it. Put a another one in front of it. Put a basket of smaller gourds near by and get some Indian corn and place it in another basket. Consider purchasing some corn stalks and tying them to a pillar if you have a porch or stack them against your door and prop them up with you pumpkins, gourds, and mums!

Fall is great time to decorate the front of your house. My husband and I always order a sack of daffodil bulbs and plant them so every spring we have more than the year before. They also divide so you’ll get way more than you planted for a colorful display of bright yellow next Spring.

Take advantage of the remaining sunny days with the temps in the 50’s and plant more bulbs and brighten your front door or porch with lots of fall color.

It will cheer you up as well as your guests.

…Til next month! ~Karen
